Beijing Mandarin: Young Learners, formly named as Young Learners Chinese Tests (YLC), is a suite of Chinese language examinations specially designed for children in primary and lower-secondary school. The tests are provided by the BeijingMandarin.

These tests introduce children to everyday spoken Chinese and fundamental written Chinese. The tests are an excellent way for children to gain confidence and improve their Chinese.

The tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in Chinese through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The BM YLC program is designed to assess the Chineseh language skills of children. It is suitable for children from K1 – P5. The BM Chinese: Young Learners (YLC) exams are available at three assessment levels (Starter, Runner and Flyers) that encourage children to work through by monitoring their progress. There are no pass or fail grades since every child is rewarded for their own effort.

MATERIALS

The BM YLC programme uses the Beijing Mandarin text books. These materials incur an extra cost.

 

CERTIFICATE

Children will be awarded a certificate issued by the Beijing Mandarin after completing the exam.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE

There are 7 levels in the program:

 

Level 1: For K1-K2

48 lessons. (6 months)

Introduces basic Chinese vocabulary and reinforces it through a variety of mediums – audio, video, reading, writing and group activities.

 

Level 2: For K2-K3

48 lessons (6 months)

Children will be introduced to short sentence writing, and will be taught simple grammar and sentence structures.

 

Level 3: For K3-P1

48 lessons (6 months)

Introduces practical use of Chinese vocabulary and grammar to further enhance learner’s Chinese, and reinforces it through a variety of mediums – audio, video, reading, writing and group activities.

 

Level 4: For P1-P2

48 lessons (6 months)

With more demanding exercises and increased difficulty in reading and listening.

 

Level 5: For P2-P3

48 lessons (6 months)

With more demanding exercises and increased difficulty in reading and listening, as well as demonstration skill

 

Level 6: For P3-P4

48 lessons (6 months)

With more demanding exercises and increased difficulty in reading and listening, as well as demonstration and exhibiton skill

 

Level 7: For P4-P5

48 lessons (6 months)
